Miss New York wins Miss America crown

LAS VEGAS: Miss New York Mallory Hytes Hagan, a 23-year-old native of Brooklyn, was crowned Miss America late Saturday, beating rivals from all 50 US states.

Hagan appeared to have won over the jury when asked if armed guards should be placed in schools in the wake of last month's deadly shooting spree in Newtown, Connecticut.

Violence should not be fought with violence, she replied. Twenty elementary school students and six teachers were killed in Newtown when a gunman opened fire inside a local school.

As Miss America, Hagan will receive a $50,000 scholarship and will spend a year speaking and raising money for the Children's Miracle Network, the pageant's official charity. The pageant, which included the traditional contests of young women in swimsuits, evening gowns, as well as talent and interview competitions, was held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas Strip.

The runner-ups were second-placed Miss South Carolina Ali Rogers, and Miss Oklahoma Alicia Clifton, in third.

Katrina most ideal wife for Salman: Survey

MUMBAI: Actress Katrina Kaif has topped the list of perfect matches for Bollywood's famous bachelor, and her former beau, Salman Khan, according to a survey by a matrimonial site.

The survey covered 21,000 respondents, and 69.84 percent believed that Katrina, 28, would make an ideal wife for Salman, 47.

Another interesting survey around the Dabangg star reveals that 62 percent of Indian men don't want the actor to get married at all while 60.37 percent women want him to settle down as soon as possible.

In the survey, several fans from the south would like to see Salman's Dabangg co-star Sonakshi Sinha as his off-screen life partner too while north Indians won't mind seeing southern actress Asin as his better half in real life.

"Most individuals associate themselves with a celebrity at some point in their life. Through the poll, we wanted to understand how an icon's lifestyle influences people's views and choices during partner search," said Gourav Rakshit, chief operating officer, Shaadi.com

Winslet marries for third time - to Mr RocknRoll

LONDON: Oscar-winning actress Kate Winslet has married her third husband in a secret ceremony -- tying the knot with Richard Branson's nephew Ned RocknRoll, The Sun tabloid reported on Thursday.

Winslet, 37, was given away by her "Titanic" co-star Leonardo DiCaprio at an intimate service in New York attended by just a few close friends and family in early December, according to the paper.

Although Winslet's spokeswoman confirmed the actress had married, it came as a surprise to her family -- her father Roger told The Sun "What are you going on about?" when he was asked.

Her new 34-year-old husband, who changed his name from Abel Smith, works part-time for his tycoon uncle's space venture Virgin Galactic. He began dating Winslet last year.

Winslet first married in 1998 to Jim Threapleton, who was assistant

director on "Hideous Kinky" in which she starred. They had a daughter, Mia Honey, in 2000 but split up the following year.

Husband number two was Sam Mendes, the Oscar-winning British director of "American Beauty".

They married in a ceremony on the Caribbean island of Anguilla in May 2003 and their son Joe Alfie was born seven months later, but they announced an amicable split in 2010.

Geo Entertainment ‘One Pound Fish’ singer arrives in Lahore

LAHORE: Shahid Nazir, the Pakistani who shot to fame for his song ‘One Pound Fish’ arrived in Lahore on Thursday.

Upon his arrival Nazir said he would be visiting France in two weeks and had returned to Pakistan to obtain his visa. Nazir denied reports in the media that he had been deported from Britain.

‘One Pound Fish’ became a global hit after the song was published on YouTube. Following its success, Nazir signed a record deal with a major music label.
